2017 Wings Over Camarillo Air Show Preview

Coming up in just over a month is the famed Wings over Camarillo Air Show in Camarillo, Ca. on August 19th and 20th. This year will prove to be yet again one of the “can’t miss” shows of the year!

The Grand Marshal this year will be one of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen. At 97 years young, Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) J. Friend is one of the first African American pilots to serve in the U.S. military and was assigned to the 332nd Fighter Group, The Red Tails, which flew the P-51 Mustang during WWII.

For this year’s aerial entertainment, Vicky Benzing, John Collver, Judy Phelps, and Sammy Mason are on tap to provide the aerobatics.


Flybys and mock dogfights will be performed by several warbirds of various eras from the Commemorative Air Force, the Planes of Fame Air Museum, the Palms Springs Air Museum, the Condor Squadron as well as others. Warbirds should include: A6M, C-47, C-53, T-6s, F8F, F6F, F7F, P-38, P-51s, P-63, Spitfire, Yak 3, B-25, PBJ, F-86, L39, and more. Also performing flybys will be the West Coast Ravens, multiple Navions, and several experimental aircraft such as Lancairs, Glassairs, a Dragon Fly, and a J-3 Cub. The World War II Airborne Demonstration Team will also be performing a parachute drop from the C47 Skytrain ‘Boogie Baby’ for the first time at this event.

Orbic Helicopters will once again be giving very affordable rides as well. At such a great price, you can bring the entire family along for one of these unforgettable flights and make memories that will last long after the show. Take advantage of this air show special and jump in one of Orbic’s Robinson helicopters for breathtaking views of Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura County’s coastline, plus a bird’s eye view of the air show grounds and the surrounding areas.

There will also be helicopter rides available from the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation in their single engine AH-1 Cobra. This Cobra served the Army during Vietnam will be available for front seat flights prior to and after the waiver period. A front seat ride in this iconic attack helicopter goes for $350.00.

In 2016, a STEM Pavilion was added to the Wings over Camarillo Air Show. The STEM Pavilion was added to highlight new innovations in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields, as well as to showcase new developments in aviation and aerospace. It’s also a place where you can watch Drones and UAVs fly, see robotics in action, learn how airplanes fly, and design, fold, and test fly your very own paper airplane!

Also on the ground will be the show’s 3rd annual Classic Car Show featuring over 40 classic cars and motorcycles which will parade in front of air show fans at 1130 each day. Many static display aircraft are expected as well to include: C-17 Globemaster, C-130J Super Hercules, F/A-18 Hornet, E-2 Hawkeye, AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, USCG HH-65 Dolphin, several types of civilian aircraft, and warbirds from multiple generations.
