Ventura County Air Show 2015

This year marked the return of the Ventura County Air Show at Point Mugu after a 2 year hiatus, and the show did not disappoint.  There was an excellent showing of military aircraft on static.  Many were from Point Mugu, but there was a good selection of aircraft from other bases as well.  There were also many warbirds and civilian aircraft on display.

The Commemorative Air Force flew their Hellcat and Bearcat to pay tribute to Navy airpower in World War II. Then they were joined by a P-51, Spitfire and Mitsubishi Zero for some passes to show some of the main fighters of World War II.  Matt Chapman flew his Extra 300 through various stunts to wow the crowd.

The French Breitling Jet Team continued their 2015 American Tour with their eight L-39s.  They flew many different formations, and also made formation changes and solo maneuvers.  Their show ended with a flare filled break toward the crowd. The Marines flew one of their UH-1Y Venoms up from Camp Pendleton to show the capabilities of their light utility helicopter.

The USCG MH-65 Dolphin lowered and raised one of their divers to simulate an overland rescue.  The ANG based at Point Mugu launched one of their C-130Js with the Modular Airborne FireFighting System (MAFFS) and performed a water drop.  ATAC flew their Kfir & Hawker Hunter for a few passes including dirty passes and high speed passes.  These aircraft are used for dissimilar air combat training with various Air Force, Navy and Marine squadrons.  Sean D. Tucker performed his amazing and intense routine including the triple ribbon cut.

The USN Blue Angels ended the day with their performance.  The C-130 Fat Albert, flown by the Marines, opened by showing the performance and agility of a cargo aircraft.  Soon afterwards, the Blue Angels launched after performing their precise ground show.  The Blue Angels perform tight formations and intense solo maneuvers that showcase the capabilities of the F/A-18 Hornet.  The moisture in the air added some excellent vapor on the hard breaks and high speed maneuvers.

I’d like to thank the men and women of Naval Base Ventura County for putting on an excellent air show.  Thanks for all your hard work putting it together!
