B-52 takes flight after regeneration in the Boneyard

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz.— A B-52H ‘Stratofortress’ left the Boneyard today after regeneration maintenance and flew to Barksdale AFB.

This is the first time a B-52 has been regenerated and flown from the Boneyard.

The B-52H, Serial No. 61-0007, took off from D-M around 10:15 a.m. and landed at Barksdale AFB around 4 p.m. in perfect condition. 

At Barksdale AFB, maintenance crews will continue working on the B-52 and install upgrade modifications to ensure configuration with the rest of the fleet.

This aircraft B-52H serial number 61-0007 a former Minot Tail  “MT” known as ‘Ghost Rider,’ was in 1000-type storage, meaning it has the highest parts  restrictions requiring

Headquarters Air Force approval for each part being requested. It is the most preserved level of aircraft storage with thin layers of strippable paint covering

portions of the aircraft to protect it from the environment.
