Camarillo Preview 2015

Aerial view (2)

Wing over Camarillo will be held August 22-23. If you have never come out to this air show, do yourself a favor and seize the opportunity this year. The show starts at 12:00pm and will conclude around 4:30pm each day. Gates will open at 9:00 am and parking is provided for free. There will be a pancake breakfast hosted by the Ventura County 99’s for those who arrive early, and there is even a play area for kids of all ages. Admission is $15.00 for adults, with children under 12 being free. You can also purchase tickets on-line at

This year will have a ‘first’, and unfortunately a ‘last’, at the annual event. It will unfortunately mark the last time that Chuck ‘Malibu’ Aaron will perform in his Red Bull Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm Bo 105 helicopter at the Camarillo Air Show. Chuck is the only pilot in the United States licensed to perform helicopter aerobatics. He performs a dazzling routine with his Red Bull helicopter, doing loops and rolls that you would think a helicopter would not be able to do. After a very successful career, Chuck has decided to retire from the air show circuit following this year’s show season. He has only three shows left after this one. The circuit will be losing a legend, so this alone is worth coming out to see.

One of this year’s highlights will be the show’s first demonstration by the United States Marine Corp’s MV-22 Osprey.

Linda Elrich, the show’s Marketing Director, stated “The tilt-rotor aircraft is one of the Marine Corps’ newest combat-tested aircrafts. In addition to aerial demonstrations, the Osprey will be on display allowing airshow attendees to learn firsthand what it is like to be aboard the revolutionary aircraft. Pilots and crewmembers will also be available to answer questions and guide event goers around the tilt-rotor aircraft.”

There will be several other aerial acts for show goers to watch including Judy Phelps, Dr. D, and Vicky Benzing. Also on the schedule is the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department which will perform a water drop, a C-47 dropping multiple jumpers each day, several warbirds flying by in various formations, and even a classic car show to entertain all in attendance. For a fee, there will be aircraft rides available in WWII trainers and fighters, as well as helicopter rides made available by Orbic Helicopters for a very affordable price. I normally take the entire family up in Orbic’s helicopters every year. Wings over Camarillo is a great show that boasts great lighting for photographers, and cool temps for everyone in attendance in the middle of the Summer. I hope you are able to bring your friends and families out to witness awe inspiring demonstrations and a full day of aviation history on display.
