EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 Update #2
Story and photos by Ken Kula
The Sunday before AirVenture Oshkosh begins is filled with last minute arranging and rearranging, and putting final touches to booths and displays.
A great deal of aircraft arrive too; they could be for display purposes, or attendees still arriving for the upcoming AirVenture week.
Boeing had a pair of over sized aircraft on the Boeing Plaza ramp, one of their Dreamlifter B-747s, and NASA brought their Super Guppy, a highly-modified Boeing KC-97L. Both arrived during the later afternoon.
Several Army, Army Guard, and Coast Guard helicopters arrived during the day, including this MH-6.
A Wing Derringer, one of only a dozen built, arrived for the show.
A Minnesota Air National Guard F-16 arrived, in a special color scheme, its pilot was once a volunteer West Ramp ground crew and she received a rousing welcome.
The recently restored P-51C Thunderbird was parked at the Classic area, as it is a Cleveland Air Race veteran.
Warbirds streamed into the airport, including a pair of MiG-15 jets.
None of the set-up would be possible without a dedicated volunteer crew, including those at the West Ramp, which played a chess game moving aircraft in and through the Boeing Plaza.
Everyone is getting their planes ready for display and judging, even in some high temperatures and humidity. Another report will be coming in a few days!
