MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif.
America’s airshow returned to MCAS Miramar Sept 26th-28th. The Former home to the US Navy Top Gun school and Fightertown USA, the Miramar Airshow is one of the largest and most highly attended air shows on the West Coast. Officials projected 300,000 spectators attending over the three day event.

With the United States Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration team headlining the airshow, this year was even bigger and better airshow. As the Marine Corps celebrates 250 years of exceptional war fighting legacy, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar did not disappoint in bringing new performances and demonstrations to this year’s air show.
The Silent Drill Platoon, consisting of 24 hand-selected infantry Marines, highlighted their rigorous training and excellent endurance and discipline with five performances, making this the first year ever that they performed on the steady grounds of MCAS Miramar’s flight line.

Miramar also had ground-breaking records with the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) demonstration. The crowd experienced the Marine Corps’ usual outstanding display of joint war fighting capabilities. Marines from 1st Marine Division, the Helicopter Support Team from 1st Marine Logistics Group, a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, and an M777 Howitzer artillery cannon—the ultimate show that the Marine Corps is ready to respond to any mission. Then, a strong, warm gust added an unpredicted thrill as the MAGTF demonstration’s Wall of Fire extended beyond 3,300 feet long, shattering the MCAS Miramar historical record.

In addition to some great static displays, the MCAS Miramar aerial performance schedule was nonstop flying, with both great military demonstrations as well as civilian demonstration acts.
