For many aviation enthusiasts, the Boeing 737-300 represents an important era in Continental Airlines’ history. Continental operated a substantial fleet of 65 Boeing 737-300s, making the type a familiar sight throughout the airline’s network.

The 737-300 was part of Boeing’s “Classic” generation of 737s and brought a major improvement over the earlier 737-200, including newer CFM56 turbofan engines, a redesigned cockpit, and a longer fuselage. At Continental, the 737-300 became a dependable workhorse for short- and medium-haul flying. Its size made it particularly useful for connecting major hubs with smaller cities while still offering enough capacity for busy routes.

Passengers during the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s would have commonly seen the familiar Continental globe tail and blue-and-gray livery while boarding one of these aircraft. Continental’s 737-300s remained in the fleet until the airline retired the type in 2010, just before Continental’s merger with United Airlines.
