Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? I think so.

With a nod to the Foo Fighters, my look back at 2018 saw many great new opportunities open up for me as a member of the Photorecon.net family.

I contributed seven articles that brought me great joy, new experiences and friends.

A highlight of my year was being able to fly with the U.S. Army Golden Knights in the Power in the Pines airshow.

I was also able to cover some airshows from different angles and made contacts that will be featured in some upcoming features this year.

I began the year with my C-97 story and witnessing its return to flight. I returned to World War II Weekend in Reading Pennsylvania for flying history. I covered both of my local airshows, Power in the Pines at Joint Base McGuire – Dix – Lakehurst and Thunder Over The Boardwalk in Atlantic City NJ. I covered the French Navy deployment to Oceana as well as attending the airshow there in September. I finished the year with a behind the scenes tour of the Wallops Flight Facility that will be featured in an upcoming article.

My look back is including some content you haven’t seen from me as well as some of my best of 2018. I am sharing with everyone some of my unseen spotting photos I took over the past year.

So many new friends and developing stories from my adventures in 2018 that I look forward to sharing with everyone in the new year.

Cheers !

Mike Colaner is a native of Central New Jersey and still resides there today with his family. I always had a fascination with aviation with both NAS Lakehurst and McGuire Air Force Base nearby to my boyhood home. Upon graduating High School, I went to work for Piasecki Aircraft Corporation at NAEC Lakehurst. I worked in the engineering department on the PA-97 Helistat project as a draftsman. I soon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years active duty with both the 2nd Marine Division and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. After completing my enlistment, I went to college and became a New Jersey State Trooper. I recently retired after serving 25 years and I am looking for my next adventure. I am very glad that I have been able to join this team and to share my passion with all of you.
