MISS DOLLY
In 2004 The 134th Air Refueling Wing unveiled “Miss Dolly”—a KC-135 featuring Dolly Parton in stars and stripes, with the words “For God and Country.” Dolly herself attended the unveiling, signed the artwork, and performed for the airmen and their families.
She said it made her feel like the women of World War II, adding that she had never put her name on anything quite this fun—or this big.
The aircraft belonged to Knoxville’s own wing, based near the mountains where Dolly grew up.
And yesterday, on the day she died, one of the wing’s KC-135s flew home under the callsign: DOLLY91.
