Photos by Bob Finch

Here’s a collection of photos from several open houses and air shows at New York’s Stewart Air Force Base during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Stewart was a Cold War Air Defense Command’s command and control and fighter base located less than an hour’s drive north of New York City. Today, the base is a joint use facility, with civilian airlines and general aviation operating alongside C-17s of the New York Air National Guard’s 105th Airlift Wing. The active military units in these photos have long been dissolved. Bob Finch was using slide film at that time and has scanned some of them for us to admire.
