Aviation’s Greatest Gathering: Why AirVenture 2026 Should Be on Your Radar
For as long as I can remember, one aviation pilgrimage sat at the very top of my bucket list — the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In July 2025, I finally made the trip. And after years of seeing photos, videos, and hearing stories, I can say without hesitation: nothing prepares you for it.

No image online does it justice. No video captures the scale. Oshkosh isn’t just an airshow — it’s an experience that completely surrounds you.

The moment you step onto the grounds, the sheer volume of aircraft is staggering. From rows of general aviation aircraft stretching farther than the eye can see, to a constant rhythm of arrivals and departures overhead, it feels like the entire aviation world has converged in one place. Everywhere you look, there’s movement, history, and innovation all happening at once.
And then there are the warbirds.

Even if AirVenture were only a warbird show, it would still rank among the best in the world. Historic fighters, bombers, and trainers sit just feet away from spectators, many still flying and taking to the skies daily. The opportunity to see — and photograph — such a rare collection of aircraft in one place is something few venues on Earth can offer.

What truly sets Oshkosh apart, though, is the atmosphere.

There’s an energy that flows through the entire showground — a shared passion among pilots, maintainers, photographers, families, and aviation enthusiasts from around the globe. It’s equal parts airshow, reunion, classroom, and celebration. Whether you’re watching a sunset arrival, walking through vintage aircraft camps, or hearing radial engines fire up at dawn, every moment feels like something special.

For photographers, it’s equally unmatched. The lighting throughout much of the day seems almost tailored for aviation — golden mornings, dramatic afternoons, and sunsets that turn aluminum and paint into something cinematic. Every corner offers a new subject, a new angle, and a new story waiting to be captured.

After finally experiencing it firsthand, one thing became clear:
AirVenture isn’t just a destination — it’s something every aviation enthusiast needs to experience at least once.

Which brings us to July 2026.
If Oshkosh has been on your list — whether for years or just recently — there’s no better time to make it happen. AirVenture 2026 promises to once again transform Wittman Regional Airport into the busiest airport in the world, welcoming hundreds of thousands of attendees and thousands of aircraft across every category imaginable.

From warbirds and homebuilts to cutting-edge aviation technology and daily airshows, the event offers something for everyone — whether you’re a lifelong aviator or simply someone who appreciates the power and beauty of flight.
But more than anything, it offers something that’s hard to put into words until you experience it yourself.
It offers Oshkosh.
And if 2025 proved anything, it’s this — no matter how high your expectations are, AirVenture will exceed them.
