Photorecon attends Red Flag 10-4
On July 21 Photorecon was on hand @ Nellis, AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada for the RED FLAG 10-4 exercise.
The USAF allowed us and several other photographers to attend an exciting opportunity to witness and cover the launch and recovery of the aircraft participating in the exercise from in between the two main runways.
At a blistering 117 degrees before noon, units representing USAF, USMC, USN, RSAF(Singapore) ,RSAF(Saudi Arabia) ,and PAF(Pakistan) “their first ever visit to Red Flag” began their missions with 2 E-3 Sentry representing Command and Control USAF & NATO being the first to depart (and the last to land!) and 2 Singapore AF CH-47D Chinooks. Followed by the aerial refueling portion. Two KC-135R’s from 22ARW@ McConnell AFB, one bird fitted with Hose &Drogue pods on its outer wing tips to fill up the thirsty USN & USMC aircraft. Providing Red Air threat, 15 aircraft, a mix of F-15’s of the 65th AGRS. and F-16’s from the 64th AGRS.
Following the Red Air jets were jets representing SEAD ( Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) made up of 10 aircraft: 6 F-16CM’s from 77th FS @ Shaw AFB, 1 EA-6B Prowler (CAG bird) from VMAQ-3 @ MCAS Cherry Point and 3 EA-18G Growlers, including its CAG bird from VAQ-132 “Scorpions @ NAS Whidbey Island. The Interdiction portion consisting of 31 aircraft: 8 F-15S’s of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s 92FS, 6 block15 F-16B’s of the Pakistan Air Forces No.9 sqdn (Griffins), followed by a mix of 9 block52 F-16C/D’s of the Republic of Singapore Airforce @ Luke AFB and 8 Marine F/A-18D Hornets of VMFA(AW)-225 “Vikings” @ MCAS Miramar.
All of us here at Photorecon would like to send out a big “Thank You” to the 99 ABW Office of Public Affairs. To show our appreciation for allowing us the opportunity to attend the media day!!
